What Makes a Good Sub?

Calling yourself submissive doesn't make you a good sub.

I've met plenty of people who can type "Yes, Mistress."

That's the easy bit.

What interests me is what happens afterwards.

For me, a genuinely good submissive comes down to a handful of things: loyalty, honesty, respect, communication, consistency and trust.

Get those right and we can have an awful lot of fun together.

Get them wrong?

Well… that's why I have a Naughty Corner.

Loyalty

Let's start with a big one.

If you tell me you want to serve me, I expect your actions to match your words.

I value loyalty enormously. I want to know that the person giving me their submission actually means it rather than simply enjoying the fantasy for five minutes when it suits them.

Devotion isn't something you switch on when you're bored and switch off when something else catches your attention.

A good sub makes me feel that their submission actually means something.

Honesty

This one is non-negotiable.

Don't tell me what you think I want to hear.

Tell me the truth.

Be honest about your experience, your expectations, your limits, your feelings and what you actually want from the dynamic.

Submission requires trust, and trust disappears very quickly when honesty does.

I'd much rather hear an awkward truth than a convenient lie.

Respect

Being submissive doesn't mean having no personality.

And being dominant doesn't mean I don't have boundaries.

Respect works both ways.

Respect my time. Respect my privacy. Respect my boundaries. Don't assume that because you've sent me a message you're automatically entitled to my attention.

And don't confuse deliberately provocative play between consenting adults with permission to behave disrespectfully outside that dynamic.

A good sub understands the difference.

Communication

I'm a Mistress, not a mind reader.

If something matters, communicate.

If you're uncomfortable, tell me.

If something excites you, tell me.

If you're unsure what I mean, ask.

Good communication allows trust to grow, boundaries to be understood and both of us to enjoy the dynamic far more.

Silence followed by "but I thought…" is rarely a winning strategy.

Consistency

Anyone can be wonderfully obedient for an evening.

I'm much more interested in what happens after the novelty wears off.

Do you still remember the rules?

Do you still communicate?

Do you still show respect?

Do you still make an effort?

Consistency is attractive because it tells me you're serious.

I notice the little things.

Probably more than you realise.

Learn to Listen

This sounds obvious.

Apparently, it isn't.

A good submissive listens.

Not just waiting for their next opportunity to talk about their fantasies. Actually listening to what I'm saying, remembering things and paying attention.

If I have to repeat the same simple instruction five times, you're not demonstrating submission.

You're demonstrating that you're irritating.

There's a difference.

Trust

This is the part people sometimes overlook when they're caught up in the fantasy of domination and submission.

Giving somebody control requires trust.

Accepting somebody's submission requires trust too.

The deeper the dynamic becomes, the more important that trust becomes.

It's something you build gradually through honesty, communication, respect and consistent behaviour.

You don't demand it.

You earn it.

And Yes, I Like Being Spoiled

Did you really think I'd write an entire article without mentioning this?

I like gifts.

I like surprises.

I like being treated.

And I certainly like somebody showing their appreciation rather than endlessly telling me how much they appreciate me.

You'll find my Tribute page elsewhere in Scarlett's World if you're feeling particularly appreciative.

But here's the important part: a gift doesn't replace manners, honesty or respect.

You can't buy your way out of behaving badly.

Although buying me something lovely while behaving impeccably?

Much better.

Good Subs Make It Fun

Ultimately, that's what all of this should lead to.

Fun.

A good D/s dynamic isn't created simply by one person declaring themselves dominant and another declaring themselves submissive.

It's built.

The trust. The anticipation. The teasing. The rules. The rituals. The laughs. The little moments of obedience. The feeling of knowing what's expected of you.

That's where it becomes interesting.

So if you're wondering what makes a good sub in Scarlett's World, remember:

Be loyal.

Be honest.

Communicate.

Show respect.

Be consistent.

Listen.

Earn trust.

And perhaps most importantly…

Don't make your Mistress repeat herself.

I really don't like that.
